  • Sweep the arm side as it reaches up on the diagonal.

  • Resists the springs as it swings back down to start.

Other Muscles at Play

  • Spinal lateral flexors keep the spine stabilized in lateral flexion.

  • Anterior spinal stabilizers co-contract with the hip extensors to stabilize the lumbo-pelvic region.

  • Anterior & posterior spinal stabilizers keep the spine supported and stable in neutral.

  • Scapular depressors keep the shoulder down away from the ear.


Objectives
  • Mobilization and lubrication of the arm in the shoulder while in lateral flexion.

  • Develop trunk and scapular stabilization against the movement of the arm.

  • Enhance the control and strength of the core while in lateral flexion on the moving carriage.

  • Using the obliques to stabilize the body in a side bend position.

  • Challenge lumbo-pelvic stabilization by performing the exercise in a kneeling position.

  • Focus on breathing to synchronize the movement.
