Plane of Motion

Sagittal, Coronal & Transverse

Spring Setting

1 Extra Light Spring or

1 Light Spring

Muscle Focus

Hip Adductors

Adductor Longus, Adductor Brevis, Adductor Magnus, Gracilis, Pectineus

  • Resists the light weight of the carriage to control the legs opening.

  • Keeps the carriage still as the spine moves.

  • Pulls the carriage closed.

Spinal Rotators

External Oblique (opposite side), Internal Oblique (same side), Erector Spinae (same side), Semispinalis (opposite side), Deep Posterior Spinal Group (opposite side)

  • Twists the spine.

Spinal Flexors

Rectus Abdominis, External Oblique, Internal Oblique

  • Rolls the spine down in flexion in rotation to reach opposite hand to foot.

  • Co-contracts with the spinal extensors on the roll up to support and control the articulation.

Spinal Extensors

Erector Spinae, Semispinalis, Deep Posterior Spinal Group

  • Stacks the spine back up to neutral in rotation.

  • Co-contracts with the spinal flexors on the roll down to support and control the articulation.

Other Muscles at Play

  • Anterior & posterior spinal stabilizers provide lumbo-pelvic & spinal stabilization.

  • Hip extensors assist the spinal stabilizers with the lumbo-pelvic stabilization.

  • Knee extensors keep the knees straight.

  • Shoulder abductors resist gravity and keep the arms elevated in a T.

  • Scapular depressors keep the shoulders down away from the ears.

Objectives
  • Enhance the strength of the hip adductors and stabilize the pelvis during standing movements and spinal rotation and articulation.

  • Enhance deep abdominal control and lumbo-pelvic stabilization to rotate and articulate the spine as the hip adductors keep the carriage from moving.

  • Keep the pelvis stable while engaging the obliques to rotate the trunk.

  • Extend and engage the hamstring connection while bending over and maintaining stability and control.

  • Challenges balance and stability while standing on the moving carriage.

  • Focus on breathing to synchronize the movement.
