Other Muscles at Play

  • Anterior spinal stabilizers co-contract with the hip extensors to stabilize the lumbo-pelvic region.

  • Shoulder flexors keep the arms lifted up in front of the body to hold the straps.

  • Scapular depressors & adductors keep the shoulders down away from the ears and draw back to stabilize the scapulae.

  • Elbow extensors and flexors co-contract to stabilize the elbow joint.

Objectives
  • Engaging the trunk in rotation with an emphasis on the spinal rotators.

  • Enhance scapular and lumbo-pelvic stability in opposition to spinal rotation.

  • Challenge core strength & stability as the weight comes from one side only.

  • Enhance the control and strength of the core muscles while on the moving carriage.

  • Challenge lumbo-pelvic stabilization by performing the exercise in a kneeling position.

  • Focus on breathing to synchronize the movement.
