  • Straightens the knee to push the carriage out.

  • Resists the springs to pull the carriage in with control.

Gluteus Maximus, Hamstrings

  • Straightens the thigh in the hip to push the carriage out.

  • Resists the springs to pull the carriage in with control.

Hip External Rotators

Gluteus Maximus, Piriformis, Obturator Internus, Gemellus Superior, Gemellus Inferior, Quadratus Femoris

  • Rotates the thigh in the leg into external rotation, turning the legs out.

Other Muscles at Play

  • Anterior spinal stabilizers to maintain lumbo-pelvic stabilization.

  • Hip adductors when straightening the legs.

  • Plantar flexors if on the toes are on the bar to keep the heels lifted.

  • Dorsiflexors if the heels are on the bar to keep the ankles flexed.


Objectives
  • Enhance the deep internal connections, while ensuring pelvic stability and developing strength and mobility in the legs.

  • Enhance the strength and flexibility of the knee and hip flexors.

  • Deep abdominal contraction during leg movement against resistance establishes pelvic stability.

  • The adductors are strengthened when the legs are extended.

  • Focus on breathing to synchronize the movement.
