Hip flexors keep the thighs close to the chest.
Hip abductors open the legs when clapping.
Hip adductors close the legs when clapping. The emphasis of clapping is on the close of the legs or the hip adductors.
Shoulder flexors and elbow flexors work to hold the legs close and assist with the clapping.
