  • Straighten the elbow.

  • Resist the springs as the elbow bends.

Other Muscles at Play

  • Anterior and posterior spinal stabilizers keep the spine in neutral and provide lumbo-pelvic stabilization.

  • Hip flexors and knee extensors keep the hips and knees flexed and hold the body weight up off the feet and lower leg.

  • Hip extensors assist the anterior stabilizers with the lumbo-pelvic stabilization and assist the hip flexors and knee extensors to keep the knee stabilized and the body weight lifted off the feet and lower leg.

  • Shoulder extensors and adductors keep the upper arms tight to the body and held back.

  • Scapular adductors and depressors keep the scapulae pulled together and down away from the ears.

  • Plantar flexors keep the feet pointed.


Objectives
  • Enhance trunk stability while strengthening the shoulder and elbow extensor muscles.

  • Engaging the mid/upper back muscles and posterior deltoids helps keep the shoulder blades wide and down, without squeezing them together.

  • Positioning the arms and torso offers support and helps the body sustain the correct posture.

  • Focus on breathing to synchronize the movement.
