  • Co-contracts with the hip extensors to keep the pelvis stable and not go into the lower back.

  • Stretch in an active state as the carriage moves out.

Other Muscles at Play

  • Anterior and posterior spinal stabilizers provide lumbo-pelvic and spinal stabilization.

  • The co-contraction of the spinal flexors and hip extensors keeps the pelvis from tilting anteriorly.

  • Shoulder extensors assist with pushing the carriage out.

  • Scapular depressors keep the shoulders down away from the ears.

  • Hip abductors on the standing leg keep the hip from dumping out or collapsing.

  • Hip adductors keep the legs narrow and the core integration and midline connection and assist with closing the carriage.

  • Hip extensors on the standing leg assist straightening to pull the carriage closed.

  • Knee extensors straighten the standing leg.

  • Knee flexors on the standing leg bend the knee and assist the hip abductors to track the knee over the ankle.


Objectives
  • Enhance hip flexibility and deeply stretch the psoas muscle while stabilizing the pelvis and trunk during deep knee bends.

  • Enhance hamstring control and flexibility by using the back extensors to maintain an upright and stable torso.

  • Begin the movement by flexing the toes to enhance the stretch in the tarsals of the foot on the shoulder block, ensuring not to push the knee against the carriage.

  • Challenges balance and stability while standing on the floor with one leg on the moving carriage.

  • Focus on breathing to synchronize the movement.
